The possibilities are endless. From grassy Karst pastures, to primeval forests that ascend to the 1.796m high Mt. Snežnik. You are more likely to see a deer or a small forest animal here than another hiker. If you are looking for a big choice of quiet, peaceful trails, then the local network of forest paths here under Snežnik Mountain could be just perfect for you!

Of course, you could start your run right from the front door and follow the paths to nearby villages...
But around here, we really recommend a bit of trail running! You could also start directly from Belakapa or drive a little bit up into the mountains for some different trails.

We can give directions or you can easily explore the numerous trails on your own. Andrej is an experienced trail runner with lots of kilometres on the clock and he would be delighted to give you some tips or even go out for a run with you. Please just ask!

If you visit in the beginning of June, your visit might coincide with the traditional Milanja trail and you are invited to run along with us! .

If you like cycling, there are lots of options for you to get out on a road or mountain bike here and discover some secret places.
Lots of different sorts of paths whisk you to nearby villages, lakes and rivers..., or you could go even further to the beautiful, hilly Brkini region, where apple and plum trees blossom and ripen right in front of you.

Above town on the way to Snežnik, you could visit a place we call “Črne njve”, (the Black Fields) where there is a fantastic little Mountain Trail Bike centre. A local bike club maintain and look after about 28 km of trails with all levels of difficulty and you can ride here too!

There are numerous other routes available for classic mountain biking. We can offer you advice, give you a local map or even accompany you on a beautiful cycling day out!

The nearby lakes of Mola and Klivnik are popular with anglers. Both can be found in very quiet locations, surrounded by nature. 

You can catch chub, carp and catfish, but most of all, you will find true peace and tranquillity here.
Angling is also possible on the Reka River, where fly-fishing is allowed with a local permit.

Location is always the thing that decides the characteristics of local cuisine. You can taste the nearby coastal influence in some of our regional dishes, but this beautiful green area under Mt. Snežnik has a kitchen strongly attached to continental food.

Despite the fast pace of modern life, local people still enjoy taking time to prepare and cook local dishes. We still grow our own vegetables and tend our orchards. We hope that it will stay that way for a long time and we strongly recommend you visit some of the local eateries and tourist farms to try some local delicacies and excellent home cooking!

Not far from our Green Karst, there is a rockier Karst landscape where, over millions of years, water and stone have created a magical world of caves, sinkholes and other Karst phenomena just waiting to be explored. There are lots of charming little Karst villages with original architecture and excellent inns – inside you can always find air-dried local prosciutto and a very special unique local wine called Teran. Lovely! Oh yes, we strongly recommend a visit to the nearby rocky Karst.

You could have a go at an outdoor escape room for example, or they can create some other special and unique Karst experiences, just for you.

Postojna Cave is a world-famous attraction and a visit here is probably already on your list.

If you prefer visiting another fantastic cave and would like to see one of Slovenia’s UNESCO natural heritage sites on your visit, then we strongly suggest a visit to the nearby Škocjan Caves.

How about a smaller unknown local cave with almost no visitors for company instead? We have those too. If you are interested, we will tell you where to go for an even more authentic and interesting underground experience!

Prem Castle
The closest castle to Belakapa is Prem. It is beautifully preserved and restored. Take a stroll around the castle grounds, see the grand hall with all the signs of the Zodiac painted onto the walls and take a journey into history.

Predjama Castle
A fairy tale castle suspended from a huge cave half way up a massive cliff… Predjama Castle is the largest cave castle in the world and appears in the Guinness Book of Records and every “Best Castles Guide in the World” list! We really don’t need to write any more here!

Snežnik Castle
The romantic Snežnik Castle has so much to see inside from when the original Lords lived here and used it as a massive fairy tale hunting lodge. A walk through the four floors of the castle is a journey through history and the story of the family. Castle is surrounded by a moat and nature park and it is great fun to walk around outside of the castle too.

Kalc Castle
All that remains from the castle is a large romantic and mysterious tower, where Slovenians rallied in the past to preserve our special language. Nowadays it is the perfect tower to sketch or to paint or to just sit outside on the lush meadow grass with a picnic.
